Gender Policy of EJAG

Gender-based violence is one of the most common factors in Bangladesh. The negative impacts and horrors of violence inflicted upon women in Bangladesh. For example severe beaten, unlawful divorce, constant dowry demand, severe physical and mental torturing by husbands, continuous deliberate quarreling, polygamy by husbands, rape, unwanted pregnancy. Acid throwing is a form of abuse increasingly perpetrated by vengeful lovers, leads to permanent disfigurement.  In addition, battered women often suffer chronic headaches, abdominal pain, recurrent vaginal   infections, and sleep and eating disorders. About one-third of battered women suffer by major depressions. In the rural areas of Bangladesh, much of gender-based violence is inflicted on women by husbands, fathers or other male relative in the families in Bangladesh. Half of all murders of wives are occurred by husbands. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to their husbands and parents.  Other complications that may result from abuse are pre-eclampsia and premature. Much of domestic violence relates to male sexual desire, jealousy, religious prominence and desire to exert authority over the women. In addition to personal costs, violence against women puts a strain on the limited resources of most national public healthcare and nutritional systems. The culture of silence about the causes of injury and pain suffered by too many women results in an inefficient use of available services, since treatment provides only temporary reprieve if root causes are not addressed directly. So, remembering all these facts of domestic violence against women, ESHO JATI GORHI(EJAG) has separate gender policy for gender equity and women empowerment
